The 47th Company are my main army for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy, as well as one of my main passion projects for the last three years. They were born from a fascination with the Forgeworld Black Book series, as well as a love for many of the early 30k community's armies I saw online. I read Dan Abnett's Know No Fear too, of course (I think every 30k Ultramarines player will tell you the same thing :p).

Unlike the bulk of the Ultramarines Legion - who were present at Calth at the dawn of the Heresy - the 47th company were cut off from all allies and supply lines by the eruption of the Ruinstorm. I've tried to reflect this in the force with heavy weathering and 'MkV' suits made up of a diverse variety of scavenged of power armour. Some of the unit choices reflect this too - instead of artifice suits of Cataphractii terminator armour or sophisticated Contemptor dreadnoughts, the 47th have the more utilitarian Indomitus terminators and Castra Ferrum dreadnoughts (my fav <3).

The 47th wear a slightly more faded, cyan-y blue than the typical 'ultramarine' coloration. Every member of the 47th wears a white shoulder pad on their right - this is to honour the personal heraldry of their previous commanding Legate, Celestia Antiqua, who was slaughtered in the opening battles of the Shadow Crusade. All of the weapons in the army feature black casings with yellow markings - the heraldry of Mechanicum Forge World Grotesk-215, who supply the wargear for the 47th's expeditionary fleet. The other main thing I chose about the color scheme was the lack of red - the 47th sport green eye lenses, as well as cold, brassy gold trim instead of the traditional orangey gold. I imagine the world of the heresy to be a cold, hostile one, and I wanted the models to reflect that.

With the 2nd edition of Horus Heresy wrapping up (or not? depending on who you talk to lol), I've managed to get a bit over 3000 points worth of these guys painted. I've got some plans for the force, including expanding my armoured division with more tanks, as well as some more infantry like veterans and characters. Maybe even some more things to showcase their ties to Grotesk-215... We'll see. I plan to make some tutorials for things like the blue armour and the bases too, since I get asked about those a lot. I'll make sure to post them here!
