Holy Stoßtruppen Division || Principality of New Antioch
Taking a little break from Warhammer, this time I've got some different religious zealots on the painting table!! I backed the Trench Crusade Kickstarter last year, and was pretty excited to try and paint a warband. I put it off for a while, but once the 1.0 rules dropped I figured I should actually get around to getting these guys together.
My main interest in New Antioch was with the really excellent Shock Trooper and Heavy Mechanised Infantry sculpts by Wilph/DivergingRealm, so that's what most of the warband is made up of. I made a few modifications, like giving them larger backpacks from the Church accessory pack, kitting two of them out with flamethrowers (for that sweet sweet Infiltrate :D), and giving another guy a cool troop flag also from the accessory pack. The Heavy Mech also received a headswap, using the helmet from the Anti-Tank Communicant, scaled up and stretched out.
To make my Lieutenant a little more unique, I built him out of a Shock Trooper too, and threw on a few more accessories. His cloak was an experiment, made from strips of tea bag hardened with super glue and sanded down. I think it turned out interesting, but a little rough. It might be a good basis for sculpting with putty in the future.
It's also worth noting that the official Shock Trooper files are definitely way too big. They're supposed to be on 25mm bases, but mine only really fit on 32mms. Since they were the first minis I printed, I didn't notice the scale was off until I'd made the full squad lol. Nobody in my games has seemed to notice though :p
I had actually already painted a New Antioch trooper last year, using one of the Red Brigade minis. I knew I wanted to use some of the colors like the baby blue, but I wanted to try using some more greens too.
I think the first test guy was ok, but I ended up not really liking the reddish brown leather and the glossy mud bases, so I swapped both out for more colder, drab colours in the end.
For painting I kept things fairly simple. The only parts I really spent any time on was the bluish-green undersuits and the olive green armour, which I had a lot of fun stippling up in a bunch of layers.
The dog (one of Westfalia's Red Brigade sculpts) was a pretty late addition too - I had some spare room in my list for a tournament, so I printed him out the day before and quickly painted him up. He was a big hit on the day, even if he didn't actually do much in game :3
Since playing a few games, I've gotten a few ideas what I might add to the warband next. I'll probably try and work on some new stuff in the new year. In the mean time, I'm looking forward to seeing where the game goes!
Thanku for reading!
