Apothecary Candara and Apothecary Tiempos || Legion Apothecarion || 47th Company, 4th Chapter || Ultramarines Legion

Once, the role of the Legion Apothecary primarily involved operating as a healer of the wounded and a source of morale. However, after the outbreak of the heresy, their main role became extracting the precious gene-seed from their all too plentiful fallen comrades. The members of the Apothecarion grew distant to the rest of the 47th Company, only spending time with legionnaires at death's door.

It's been a while, but I'm back with some more 30k Ultramarines! This time I've got an Apothecarion Detachment that I picked up a while ago. I actually finished these a few months ago, but once again I've been too busy to actually get some photos - until now anyway.

I was super excited to see our first look at the new style of MkV armour with these guys, and as a result I've left the MkV Apothecary fully unmodified. He's probably one of my favourite heresy minis they've released. For the other guy, I gave him some MkIV parts as well as a magnetized jump pack (the attached lamp accessories are bits designed by In Excelsis Milia/oHm). Of course, I built these guys before they removed their ability to even take jump packs in 3.0, so it might have been a bit of a waste of effort. lol

As with 40k, the way Apothecary armour is decorated in 30k seems to vary quite a lot. I decided to use the black books as a reference again, drawing inspiration from the Ultramarines Apothecary in book 5 (EDIT: dread_paint on instagram made me aware that this scheme actually originates from the Rogue Trader era! Makes sense, since Forge World seem to love referencing that sort of thing). I always thought he was one of the standout armour illustrations from that book, and I tried to emulate his look with my MkIV armoured Apothecary, including a numeral in the corner of his shoulder pad.

Another issue I ran into was with the Apothecary unit symbol. I never really like sculpted unit markings on models, so I swapped the included resin shoulders out for some bare plastic shoulders. But when I went to use the transfers from the Ultramarines transfer sheet, I found that the included red helixes are like, really really tiny. I ended up image tracing over a picture of the icon from the sheet and then printed my own upscaled versions of them (you can find the design in my transfer gallery if you want to print some yourself :D).

Painting these guys ended up being more involved than I had thought. Since I had undercoated them in white, I had to paint the gradients on their blue bodies and thighs by hand. The white of their smocks was also tricky to get right, as I still wanted it to read as white, but not as the same material as the white armour. I used some warmer grays as the basecoat for these, so hopefully the difference is visible.

Finally, I had to paint all the little glass vials, tubes and lenses scattered across each model. I redid some of these a few times as painting glass is something I find quite tricky, and I eventually just tried to copy the box art for them. It's pretty subtle, but I did try to use slightly different greens and reds for the tubes and vials to differentiate them from the screens and lights. I think I'm happy with how they turned out.

That's all the new stuff for today. I haven't been painting as much as I'd like to, but I do have some other finished miniatures that I'll be posting soon, as well as some new projects I'm working on, so stay tuned. And thanks for reading!
